Benefits of Yin Yoga

As restrictions from the Coronavirus pandemic lift and a faster pace of life returns, it can be easy to be swept up and feel overwhelmed.

Perhaps you feel a little caught up in the plans for the future and the excitement of a social life?

Maybe you're even feeling a little anxious about how life will play out following 18 months of strict lockdowns and uncertainty?

Or maybe you want to make some time for yourself again and reestablish a connection with your mind, body and breath?

That's where Yin Yoga can really help. If you haven't tried it we've got the perfect video to ease you in from our lovely collaboration with Rhi from Fluid Fox.

So what is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga practise targets the deep fascia networks of our body, a Yin class would usually have a series of passive floor poses that you are encouraged to hold for longer periods of time, five minutes or more, targeting release for areas such as the hips, pelvis, inner thighs and lower spine.

The poses themselves and the length of time we hold them for penetrate the rich connective tissues deep within our bodies, helping to revitalise us physically but also emotionally too. Yin Yoga also improves the energy flow through the body helping our vital organs.

Whilst Vinyasa, rocket and other classes are Yang based with faster movements and a variety of poses Yin yoga invites those taking part to slow down and really connect to themselves.

Yin yoga is for everyone, there is no need to have previous experience of yoga.

Some of the benefits of Yin yoga practise include...

  • Soothing and calming the mind and body

  • Easing stress and anxiety

  • Increasing circulation

  • Improving flexibility

  • Releases fascia and helps to improves joint mobility

  • Balances the internal organs and improves the flow of chi or prana (the breath of life)
