It’s Leo season! This fiery sun sign can bring with it excitement, fun, self-expression and creativity for most, in celebration of this fire sign season we caught up with our home grown teacher and Leo Laura Booth. Who has created an expressive playlist for you to unleash your mind and body to.
Laura has been teaching in Manchester for over six years, with regular classes at Yoga Soul, The Life Centre, The Yoga Rooms and also from her own living room on Zoom in light of the current situation. She’s also about to start studying sex, love and relationship coaching in a year long course. Here’s what she had to say about all things yoga and creativity, sharing her insights with us…
I became a yoga teacher because…
I actually was working on reception at a yoga studio and the transition happened very organically. It always felt like a very natural thing for me to do! I loved yoga and I felt the call to teach it, over 6 years later and I'm still here.
My first memory of yoga is…
A Tara Stiles mini flow class on Youtube! I still occasionally practice the same one now, a decade later. At the time, I was really getting into fitness classes I could do at home, and found some of Tara's, not really understanding the 'yoga' part just yet, but loving the movement. I don't think I tried a full yoga class until a couple of years later.
Music makes me want to…
DANCE DANCE DANCE! Move freely in every direction and feel as much of my body and spirit as possible. Music and movement go hand in hand for me. It also makes me want to create yoga sequences that I can share with others.
My to-go-to song to move to is…
Espiritu de Proteccion by Nicola Cruz, which is included on the playlist!
Three words to describe my classes …
Fluid, emotive, creative.
My movement inspiration comes from…
Many many modalities! Dance, traditional hatha yoga, sex, animals, nature, music, breath...
Yoga has helped me…
Connect more deeply with myself and the world around me!
My favourite yoga posture is…
Always a well-supported savasana, a bolster behind my thighs, pillow, blanket, eye mask, soft music. It makes me feel amazing every time, and I'm always in the mood for it.
The one piece of advice I would give to a new yoga student is…
Know that one style does not fit all! Try lots of classes, styles, teachers, studios. Allow your experience to remain varied and know that there is no wrong way to do it, if it feels aligned for you.
